Vanuatu to raise West Papua human rights violations at UN General Assembly

The Prime Minister of Vanuatu Charlot Salwai has said the issue of West Papua did not have any progress during the recent Pacific Islands Forum Leaders in Samoa, but it will not stop Vanuatu from voicing its concerns on the violation of human rights of its melanesian brothers and sisters in West Papua.

Mr Salwai said that Vanuatu is no longer the only country in the region to speak out about human rights violations in West Papua, but has the support of other seven regional countries and they are going to raise the issue during United Nations General Assembly in New York next week.

Prime Minister Salwai made these comments after his return in Port Vila from PIF in Samoa.
