Guam athlete rushed to Port Vila’s hospital

Guam Judoka Deja Whitt is recovering after a stint in Port Vila Hospital.

Whitt was injured in her final bout against Chloe Omo-Perraut of New Caledonia. At just 15 seconds in to the bout, Whitt was thrown to the tatami.

Omo-Perraut’s ippon ended the match, leaving Whitt unable to move. She was treated at the scene, before being taken to Port Vial Hospital.

Guam Chef de Mission Joey Miranda said Whitt had competed well all day, but a combination of heat and back-to-back bouts eventually took its toll.
