Queen’s Baton Relay arrived in Vanuatu
On 7 December, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay arrived in Vanuatu.
Welcomed to Vanuatu at the recently opened Mahitahi Market House by Prime Minister Charlot Salwai, Minister of Sport, Seoule Simeon, and Australian High Commissioner, Jenny Da Rin, the baton has begun a week-long program in Vanuatu.
The Baton will visit Port Vila and the Vanuatu 2017 Pacific Mini Games and, will also make a special visit to the people of Ambae, who are still recovering from the recent volcanic activity and evacuation of their island.
The 2018 Queen’s Baton is an Australia design using macadamia wood and reclaimed plastic, sourced from Gold Coast waterways, and inspired by the region’s vibrant spirit and Indigenous heritage.
